The first Manly Swimming Club was formed by 1892. Its first carnival conducted on the 23rd April 1892 at what was called the Corporation Baths, with such events as the 66 yards handicap, 200 yards race and a diving contest to see who could travel the furthest underwater. The club disbanded in 1895 after the Amateur Swimming Association said Manly Swimmers could no longer compete as a club in inter-club events.

The club briefly reformed in 1899 but did not get momentum. It was not until September 1905 that the Manly Swimming Club again reformed and has been in continual operation since that time
